A Checkered Path debuts in Modern Quilts Unlimited!
A Checkered Path is now available in Issue #18 of Modern Quilts Unlimited. http://modernquilts.mqumag.com/
This jellyroll friendly quilt measures 70″ x 86″ but can easily be made bigger or smaller.
A Checkered Path weaves colorful stripes over a neutral and varied cotton and linen blend background. You can see that the background squares are varied in color and weight but they all work together, providing a blank slate to show off quilting patterns in the negative space. Solid fabrics border the paths of printed fabric checks in bold colors, they practically leap out at you, as they crisscross across the top.
The quilt assembles quite easily in rows using 3 different sized blocks 6″ x 6″, 6″ x 10″ and 10″ x 10″. These blocks are then are sewn together for easy assembly.
The quilting motifs used tie the whole top together. In the vertical paths, circles were used and they “bleed” into the top and bottom outside borders. The horizontal paths have a half moon motif that also go into the side borders. The background squares in between the paths combine these two motifs together and the borders have diamonds that go around the corners and in between the half moons and circles.
The 54″ by 54″ wallhanging on the left uses all prints and the 42″ x 42″ baby quilt on the right uses a combination of prints and a white background.
